Park Description
The Fox Island Fishing Pier is a great fishing spot, located on the Eastern tip of Fox Island. This unique structure was built by the Department of Fish and Wildlife and is now managed by PenMet Parks. The 9-acre site with 635 linear feet of shoreline has a 1,200 square foot handicap accessible pier, paved pathways and handrails, parking areas, and restrooms.
Unless in an off-leash area, all dogs must be leashed within our parks. Report an off-leash dog or other animal issues by contacting Pierce County Animal Control. Animal control officers are responsible for enforcing the laws and codes involving animals within our parks.

Automatic Gate Pilot ProjectPenMet Parks is installing an automatic gate at the Fox Island Fishing Pier as a pilot project to determine if automatic gates at additional park facilities would be beneficial. The restroom locks at Fox Island Fishing Pier are also being converted to automatic locks. This project will allow PenMet Parks’ maintenance staff to remotely control the gate and restroom. PenMet Parks will continue to conduct park maintenance and clean the restroom facilities.
Part of the Cascadia Marine Trail System
This park is one of PenMet Parks’ waterfront sites for use with non-motorized watercraft by the Washington Water Trails Association (WWTA). Specifically, Fox Island Fishing Pier is one of four of the PenMet Parks within the Cascadia Marine Trail, also including Tacoma DeMolay Sandspit Nature Preserve, Sunrise Beach Park, and Narrows Park.

History
In 1995, the State of Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) constructed on this site the Fox Island concrete fishing pier. Following the construction of the pier, restroom, pathways, and parking, the WDFW conveyed the site to Pierce County as they accepted the responsibility to manage the site once the state had completed the improvements.
In 2004 the residents of Fox Island and the Gig Harbor Peninsula voted to form the Peninsula Metropolitan Park District (PenMet Parks) which then expressed an interest in the management of the property since the fishing pier was within the district’s boundaries. Pierce County transferred its interest in the Fox Island Fishing Pier to PenMet Parks in January of 2011, and the State of Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife supported the transfer.
The property is one of PenMet Park’s waterfront sites for use with non-motorized watercraft that have been adopted into the state’s Cascadia Marine Trail and supported by the Washington Water Trails Association (WWTA). WWTA volunteers constructed the kayak rack for storage while kayakers use the site. For more information please visit the WWTA website.
