Hours of Operation

The PenMet Parks Recreation Center is open seven days a week.

  • Monday through Friday: 6:30 AM – 9 PM
  • Saturday and Sunday: 8 AM – 6 PM

Passes & Fees

The Recreation Center provides a variety of passes for everyone. The Ben B. Cheney Foundation Track is free to all visitors and requires the annual track pass. It supports walking and jogging and is stroller-friendly.

The facility accepts electronic payments only and is a cashless facility. No cash is accepted.

Every user of the Recreation Center must have a waiver on file. Parents/guardians must sign a waiver for their children.

Open Gym Passes

Open Gym Passes are good for drop-in activities based on the facility schedule, such as basketball, pickleball, volleyball and soccer. Outside training, coaching, and practices are prohibited unless the space has been rented for that purpose.

Group Fitness Class Passes

Group Fitness Class Passes are good for drop-in group fitness programming. Please note that some programs use the Charles P. Meacham Family Multi-Use Fitness Room that require advanced registration, and does not qualify for Group Fitness Class Passes.

PenMet Parks Recreation Center Open to All

The new PenMet Parks Recreation Center opened July 1, 2025. This state-of-the-art facility features three multi-use courts, an elevated indoor track, a synthetic turf field, and multi-use spaces for fitness, recreation programs, community gatherings, and more.

The Recreation Center provides essential indoor recreational space for various sports and activities, including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, soccer, and a wide variety of fitness, art, STEM, dance, and other programs for all ages and abilities. Specialized and adaptive recreation, senior programs, youth sports, summer camps, and more are available at the Recreation Center – a place that brings diverse recreational programming and gathering opportunities within everyone’s reach.

The Recreation Center is part of a 17-acre comprehensive recreation campus. The Cushman Trail runs along the campus, connecting the 14th Ave. trailhead to 24th St. NW and nearly completing the connection to the Scott Pierson Trail and regional trail system beyond. Between the District Headquarters building and the Recreation Center lies a beautiful outdoor event lawn that serves as a spacious venue for community events, youth sports, and more. The campus boasts a Pacific Northwest-themed mini golf course, complete with thematic fixtures and obstacles that reflect our unique region.

Inside the facility

Ben B. Cheney Foundation Track

The indoor track is on the second level of the Recreation Center and features two uninterrupted lanes for walking and jogging. It encircles the space above the multi-use courts, providing separation from the recreational activities happening below.

The indoor track is free to everyone. Come in and enjoy the track all year long! Strollers welcome.

Multi-Use Courts

There are three multi-use courts in the Recreation Center lined for basketball, pickleball and volleyball.

Jarzynka Memorial Fieldhouse

The synthetic turf is perfect for a variety of activities, including soccer, flag football, cheer, lacrosse and more.

Charles P. Meacham Family Multi-Use Fitness Room

This multi-use space is used for group fitness classes and recreational programming. It offers a place for health and wellness activities or community gatherings.

HOA Community Solutions, LLC Multi-Use Meeting Room

This spacious room offers plenty of room to gather for parties, meetings, and more, and features a rolling door to the outdoor patio. It comes equipped with a refrigerator and sink to easily offer refreshments for gatherings.

Harborstone Field

This spacious event lawn offers additional opportunities to recreate outdoors. Nestled between the District Headquarters and Recreation Center, Harborstone Field offers the perfect place for outdoor play, family gatherings, community events, and more.

Cushman Trail

As part of the Rec Center project, PenMet Parks extended the Cushman Trail approximately .4 miles through the Recreation Center campus from the 14th Avenue NW trailhead to 24th Street NW. This new trail section nearly completes the connection to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and regional trail system beyond.
