Park Description
The DeMolay Sandspit was acquired in 2010 by PenMet Parks and is actively managed to allow passive recreation and public access. The park is just over five acres on the northwest tip of Fox Island, offering viewpoints, a wooded trail system, picnicking, parking, restrooms, and water access for non-motorized watercraft.
Unless in an off-leash area, all dogs must be leashed within our parks. Report an off-leash dog or other animal issues by contacting Pierce County Animal Control. Animal control officers are responsible for enforcing the laws and codes involving animals within our parks.
Part of the Cascadia Marine Trail System
This park is one of PenMet Parks’ waterfront sites for use with non-motorized watercraft by the Washington Water Trails Association (WWTA). Specifically, DeMolay Sandspit is one of four of the PenMet Parks within the Cascadia Marine Trail, also including Sunrise Beach Park, Narrows Park, and Fox Island Fishing Pier.
Overnight camping is unavailable at this time at DeMolay Sandspit Park while PenMet Parks is seeking permitting approval from Pierce County.

Shoreline Restoration
PenMet Parks partnered with the Pierce Conservation District to remove 845 feet of failing bulkhead during fall and winter 2025 to reconnect marine riparian vegetation and restore sediment processes that support the sandspit. Additional park improvements are planned for summer 2026 with plans to increase accessible access to the beach and increased passive recreation amenities.
